APPLETON — An Appleton man died early Saturday when his home was engulfed in fire.

The Appleton Fire Department was dispatched about 5:30 a.m. Saturday to a residential house fire in the 1500 block of N. Clark Street in Appleton.

Upon arrival, the first fire crew confirmed the house was fully involved in fire, according to a news release from the fire department.

Crews used exterior operations for fire extinguishment and the fire was brought under control within 30 minutes.

While extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered that the lone resident of the house had died int the fire.

The fire is currently under investigation and a cause has not been determined at the time of this release.

The fire caused extensive damage and the house is considered a total loss.

The Appleton Fire Department was assisted by the Appleton Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, and Outagamie County CERT on scene. The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Outagamie County Coroner’s Office also assisted on scene, which is standard on all fires where a fatality occurs.
